What effort is required to run a JustPost action?

JustPost actions can be strategically and financially managed unlike online actions which are often "launch-and-forget".

The time commitment for a JustPost action depends on you. Unlike onlie actions, JustPost actions can be moderated; curated; tailored; regularly updated and more.

Three key phases

All but the action setup phase are optional. Yet they are recommended as they can be highly strategic and help you manage your costs.

A. Action setup (essential)

Action setup involves:

  1. Strategic planning (strongly recommended): how will you use JustPost to advance your change objectives?
  2. Core-content creation (essential): for the first language it takes 2-8 hours of time depending on number of images, the sender details options and the success page options. See the requirements and decisions checklist.
  3. Tailored content creation (strongly recommended): Which tailored/advanced JustPost capabilities will you use and what extra data and content do you need to create and provide to do that?

B. Action management (optional)

Action management involves:

  1. Moderation (optional): reviewing and approving (or rejecting) messages and potentially sender uploaded images. This can be on a simple first-come-first-review basis or more strategically like releasing personalised messages and/or images first; releasing a set volume per day, flagging the best messages/Images, etc.
  2. Image and message rotation (optional): Rotating the images and default message can be done to increase the uniqueness of the actions the recipient sees, because the situtation is evolving, the decision maker changes, etc.
  3. Sender support (minimal): A few supporters may email in with questions about the JustPost action process. This would normally be handled by your support team. Since JustPost has made the experience highly usable, the very few questions that are raised (e.g. 1/1000 sends) are usually about the content, their message or the sender pay options.

C. Action followup (optional)

Following the action a wide number of things can be done to increase the impact of the campaign on the recipients and with senders/supporters, including:

  1. Recipients: ask if recipients have received the postcards to ensure they are acknowleged. You can even ask their impression of them and the messages.
  2. Allies: have you told/shown allies what you have done and encouraged them to do the same? As a high impact ation it is in your interest for allies to also use JustPost.
  3. Senders: Reporting back on the action impact can validate their effort was worth it and encourage them to participate in future actions.
  4. Campaigners: Even for those campaigning supporters who didn't send a postcard, show to them it is popular and effective can encourage future action and have them share the action with friends, family and colleagues.
  5. Donors: Especially if you've used sender pay and pay forward options, knowing that this of action is higher impact for the effort and cost is woth sharing.
  6. Subscribers: Email and other social media subscribers who haven't sent a message are worth telling that the action was popular (social proof) and effective to encourage future action.
  7. Lapsed supporters: Inactive / lapsed supporters are often not contributing because they feel what they are being asked to do has no credable theory of change. So sharing with them new action types can appeal to many who feel their action has a higher chance of making a difference.
  8. Bounced emails / unsubscribed supporters: GDPR still allows mail communications for supporters with whom email contact is no longer possible due to bounces and unsubscribes. Sending them a printed postcard can get them back.
